LBJ Presidential Library and Museum

Why We Love This

  • Explore one of Austin's most popular museums
  • Learn about the life and legacy of President Lyndon Baines Johnson
  • Discover LBJ's passion for politics by listening to original telephone conversations

The museum at the LBJ Presidential Library hosts nearly 200,000 visitors a year and is consistently ranked one of Austin's favorite tourist attractions. The exhibit tells the story of LBJ's early childhood and 32-year political career culminating in five and a half years as our 36th President. Take the Double Decker bus!

What You'll Do

The self-guided tour takes about 1.5 -2 hours and takes you through three floors of exhibits.

Highlights include galleries focusing on LBJ's sudden rise to the Presidency upon the assassination of John F. Kennedy, LBJ's Great Society legislation, including the passage of the historic Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, the Vietnam War, and multiple phone banks where visitors can listen to LBJ's original telephone conversations.
